2023 Conference Request for Proposals

The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) is seeking proposals for workshop presentations for the 2023 TAASA Conference to be held July 16 to July 20, 2023 at the beautiful Embassy Suites-Denton Convention Center in Denton, Texas. Our 2023 conference theme is “Think Beyond.”Complex problems often require creative solutions and out-of-the-box thinking. Ending sexual violence and supporting survivors is no exception. This year’s conference theme is a call to “think beyond” what we have always done to forge new, inventive strategies designed to build community, affect change, and foster hope and healing through one of the following workshop categories:

  • Creative Options for Healing and Activism
  • Systems Response and Change
  • Primary Prevention
  • Survivor-Centered Direct Advocacy
  • Sexual Assault Response Teams in Texas
  • Advancing the Anti-Sexual Violence Movement

For those whose workshop proposals may not fall into one of the categories above, we encourage you to submit a proposal that reflects our “Think Beyond” theme. We welcome proposals that are forging new and inventive strategies in our field.

In addition to more typical submissions, we are encouraging proposals that truly think beyond the usual topics and workshop styles to unlock attendees’ creativity, critical thinking, and innovative spirit. Examples might include:

  • Cultural Healing Practices
  • Arts-Based (visual art, music, performance, therapies, wellness, etc.)
  • Incorporating Multimedia
  • Poetry/Writing/Journaling
  • Meaningful Movement
  • Fostering Joy and Laughter
  • Community Engagement

Workshop Proposals will be selected based on the inclusion of the following criteria:

  • Content is aligned with the conference theme.
  • Content reflects inclusive practices for services and/or prevention work.
  • Session supports critical conversations to advance the field.
  • Learning objectives are clear, strong, and achievable in the allotted time frame.
  • Content displays an intersectional and/or multidisciplinary approach.

Electronic submissions will be accepted from September 6, 2022, until October 3, 2022. Notices of acceptance for workshop proposals will begin on January 4, 2023. Presenter confirmations must be returned by January 18, 2023.

***Late or incomplete workshop proposals cannot be accepted or reviewed.***Presenters who would like to attend and  participate in the in-person conference will receive 50% off their conference registration fee. Virtual presenters can access the online conference for free. Virtual presenters are responsible for their tech equipment (i.e., webcam, laptop, microphone, and headset).
